Cars in German City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities mentioned they were notified by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police say early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A high-ranking representative said the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
